Staff Profiles
Grace’s passion is Indigenous heritage, and she has worked with multiple Indigenous communities and managed or participated in the archaeological fieldwork for many Indigenous sites around Victoria. During her time at CWHC, Grace has written and co-written a large number of cultural heritage reports and Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs). In her capacity as a lithics expert, Grace has undertaken the cataloguing of numerous Indigenous artefact assemblages, as well as writing detailed artefact analyses and reports for these assemblages. Her Honours dissertation assessed the formation of usewear on silcrete stone tools and she presented her results at the Victorian Archaeology Colloquium in 2021 and published in their journal in the same year.
While her focus is mostly on Indigenous archaeology, Grace has also assisted in cataloguing historic artefact assemblages from Victoria and specialises in the cataloguing and analysis of historic small finds, particularly marbles and clay smoking pipes.
Grace is also a wonderful photographer and produces beautiful images of both lithics and historic artefacts. It is probable that her ability to compose artefact photos derives from her strong knowledge of artefact features. She is also highly competent with the post-photography editing of images.
Although Grace did not enjoy learning history in high school, at university she quickly found her passion for the puzzle of archaeology and the meaningful information and history she can provide to communities.
