"Christine Williamson has collaborated with GML Heritage and La Trobe University on major urban archaeological excavations, and highly-significant sites, in Melbourne over the last decade, providing outstanding expert services and competent management of extensive artefact assemblages. In addition to applying her own encyclopaedic knowledge and skills, Chris was instrumental in the development of on-site analysis and recording processes that have become best-practice industry standards."

PARKS VICTORIA |
CWHC has a long-standing relationship with Parks Victoria and has undertaken numerous projects for this organisation, all of which have involved extensive consultation with Traditional Owners and the production of CHMPs.
These have ranged from small-scale projects, for example the installation of a picnic ground or walking track, to major infrastructure developments, including the Great Ocean Walk and Grampian Peaks Trail. All projects have come in within or under budget and all clients expressed their high level of satisfaction with the work completed. |
The commonwealth block |
Historic excavations within the Commonwealth Block, Melbourne span approximately 30 years and have uncovered some of the most significant historic sites and artefact collections in Australia.
CWHC has managed the artefact collection, cataloguing, analysis and report production for all major sites within the Commonwealth Block, including Little Lon, Casselden Place and Spring Street. The processes developed by CWHC for historic artefact management at the Commonwealth Block have become the benchmark for Victorian historic sites and form the basis of Museum Victoria’s historic artefact cataloguing system. |
EASTLINK |
CWHC oversaw all historic archaeological investigations and a component of the Aboriginal cultural heritage investigations for the Eastlink Freeway Project for Theiss John Holland.
As a long-term, significant infrastructure development, this required complex and often sensitive liaison with the client, relevant government heritage organisations, local councils, Aboriginal groups and other stakeholders. Detailed archaeological excavations were undertaken at a number of sites and management recommendations and mitigations strategies developed in consultation with the client and Heritage Victoria |
POINT NEPEAN NATIONAL PARK |
CWHC has undertaken extensive Aboriginal and historic heritage investigations at the Former Point Nepean Quarantine Station for the Point Nepean Community Trust and Parks Victoria. This long-term project involved the production of three CHMPs, the archaeological section of historic Conservation Management Plan produced by Lovell Chen and assisting Parks Victoria with the implementation of the management recommendations arising from the CHMPs. .
The CHMPs included desktop, standard and complex assessments involving extensive sub-surface testing and the preparation of detailed archaeological sensitivity zone maps for the site. Aboriginal participation and consultation was extremely complex and detailed and involved balancing the sometimes competing interests and desires of several Traditional Owner groups. Aboriginal Victoria staff have commented on the high quality of the CHMPs produced and were particularly pleased with the detailed research framework and high standard of the mapped information. |
MIDWAY |
CWHC has an ongoing relationship with Midway Pty. Ltd., a company that manages forestry plantations in Victoria.
We provide heritage advice to this company and have prepared a number of CHMPs and due diligence reports for timber plantations and developed cultural heritage training programmes for Midway staff. Midway have been pleased with the heritage outcomes of these projects and have found the heritage recommendations provided clear and easy to follow. |
PRIVATE CLIENTS |
CWHC regularly undertake smaller-scale heritage investigations for private companies and individuals carrying out activities such as subdivisions and the construction of three or more dwellings on a block.
These projects may require a simple due diligence report or the preparation of the CHMP. We are always available to offer free advice and assist clients with understanding their options and the complexities of the relevant heritage legislation. |
