Staff Profiles
Aoife Barker
Archaeologist - Shell Specialist
|
Although she studied dance for many years, Aoife decided to follow in her mother’s footsteps and pursue a career in archaeology.
Aoife is currently undertaking her Honours, studying a Victorian Aboriginal shell midden assemblage to gain insights into the lifestyles and traditions of the region. While completing her degree, Aoife has been working for the past three years as an archaeological assistant across Victoria, with a specific focus on the Gippsland region. The projects she has worked on have led her to remote corners of the Snowy River and Alpine National Park, where she has enjoyed camping amidst the natural beauty of Victoria.
In addition to fieldwork, Aoife has experience undertaking a wide variety of tasks for multiple research and consulting archaeology projects, including desktop research, map drafting, artefact cataloguing, administration and report writing. Recently, Aoife has been working on cataloguing artefacts from some Victoria historic artefact assemblages, in particular the shell remains in which she specialises.
